The Purpose of Missionary Work

I've had a lot of questions from people in my work that ask me, "Why are you here?" or "What's the point of you being here?" That is a question that even some missionaries had.

In Preach My Gospel, on the very first page, it gives the simple, yet profound answer.

"Invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in
Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and
enduring to the end."

"Invite others to come unto Christ..."
This is at the core of missionary work. We are to invite all we come into contact with to accept Christ. The "others" part of this statement is rather interesting. It doesn't just imply the people we contact on a daily basis. It can also mean members, other missionaries and even ourselves.

"...by helping them receive the restored gospel..."
We know that it is only through the gospel as restored through the Prophet Joseph Smith that we can be saved. We know that it is only through the Priesthood restored through Joseph Smith that we can perform the ordinances necessary to return to live with God again. It is only in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints that this Priesthood authority is found.

"...through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end."

It is only through the Doctrine of Christ that we can be saved. The Doctrine of Christ is the missionary purpose. There is no other way that we can do this work except through the way that Jesus Christ has given us to do.
